Frizzle Sizzle plant (Albuca spiralus)10 June 2020Would you like something a little different? Then how about a Frizzle Sizzle Plant? Yup that’s its name! This plant is a succulent that comes from south Africa and is actually a bulb. What gives it its name are the unusual leaves, they are kind of Fuzzily Sizzily or Curly Worley. The plant also flowers. In summer flower stalks appear, growing about 25cm in height and they produce Yellow bells with a sweet vanilla scent. Plant Care: The Plant like a warm sunny spot and like all succulents it does not like to be over watered. Let the soil dry out a little between watering. When the flower stalks appear in Spring the leaves will turn brown and will die back, this is the natural cycle for the plant. New leaves will appear when the flowers have died back during the winter month. If you want to keep the leaves then you need to remove the flower stalks, but stopping the foliage from dying back will kill the plant eventually as it needs the rest period (Like we all do) to grow bigger and stronger. If the foliage grows back straight then the plant is overwatered. Best time to re-pot is beginning of spring before the new foliage appears using a cacti and succulent compost, every 2-3 years. It is also best to fertilize the plant during the winter month with a slow relies fertilizer.
